The mission of Eagle
Mount Billings is to provide opportunities in recreation to
enhance the lives of children and adults with disabilities.
When
Greta and Bob Mathis, a United States Air Force General,
retired to Bozeman, Montana in 1984, they started the first
Eagle Mount organization. In 1988,
the Eagle Mount program in Billings began with an adaptive ski
program at Red Lodge Mountain Resort. Eagle Mount Billings
became an independent affiliate in 1994 and has grown to
include programs in arts & crafts, bicycling, day camp,
equestrian, golf, social night, swim and a walking program in
collaboration with the YMCA.
There
are now independent Eagle Mount organizations in Bozeman,
Great Falls, Helena, and Billings, Montana. In 2008 Eagle
Mount Billings celebrated twenty years of providing adaptive
recreation to children and adults with disabilities.
The
Mathis's drew inspiration from the Book of Isaiah and chose
Isaiah 40:31 as Eagle Mount's foundational verse:
"For
they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They
shall mount up with wings as eagles." |
